New Grower: Fry Farm
New Grower: Fry Farm
I am very excited to welcome Vicky and Steve Fry of Fry Farm in Bethlehem, GA to our family of growers and vendors!!http://www.fry-farm.com/
Their family has been gardening and growing food for decades, and their passion for producing and eating local, organically grown fruits and vegetables drove them to make their products available to the public.
Fry Farm NEVER uses chemical fertilizers, pesticides, or GMO seed to grow their produce. The farm is inspected and certified under the Certified Naturally Grown (CNG) program and the letter of certification can be found on their website. They only use trusted sources to obtain untreated and organic seed.
Yesterday I visited the farm and met with Vicky. I can tell by talking with her that their family finds great joy in being good stewards of the land, thus providing great tasting, fresh produce to their customers. This definitely drives their success!
They will be providing the co-op locally grown fruits and vegetables. Click this link to see their expected growing schedule I am very excited that they are part of our co-op! Please show them your support!

Great Lakes Collagen Info
Great Lakes Gelatin (the Green can) Collagen Hydrolysate (beef kosher) Unflavored
Gelatin (also known as cooked collagen) has wonderful anti-inflammatory and anti-aging qualities, as it helps to fill in the missing amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) in the standard American diet. This is a completely different from the jiggly gelatin product most of us grew up eating as kids.
Homemade bone broth is chock full of gelatin and very nutrient dense but Great Lakes Gelatin- Collagen is a convenient way to get gelatin consistently into your diet.
What is Collagen Hydrolysate?
Hydrolyzed Collagen is the unique combination of amino acids in concentrated levels that promotes rapid re-production of blood cells for healing and conditioning over other proteins especially for bone and joint health care. This low molecular weight protein is easily digested for healthy enrichment in minutes after ingestion. It will not congeal because it has been hydrolyzed for quick assimilation and improved hydration to the connective tissue. Collagen is important to nitrogen balance, now considered an anti-aging product as it supports age related cartilage damage, and collagen loss. source: http://greatlakesgelatin.com/)
How do I use this product?
You can mix it in drinks, shakes, smoothies, or add a tablespoon to your favorite recipe to give it an anti-inflammatory protein boost. It will dissolve in cold liquids very easily.
How Much Do You Need?
Recommended dosage: Take one rounded tablespoon (10-12 g) in the morning, and the same amount before going to bed in the late evening which will help reduce appetite. This product has a low molecular weight so it will dissolve in cold, warm, or hot liquids.
Important Note: Remember not to get too carried away with gelatin. Adding too much too quickly can cause digestive issues: bloating, loss of appetite, stomach ache are just a few side effects.
It’s important to remember that more gelatin is not always better, especially if you are adding it to your diet for the first time.
Gelatin should be used in addition to a nutrient dense diet and not to replace real food like homemade bone broths and grass fed meats.
It is also really important to take this daily. You will see maximum results if you include it in your daily routine.

I have heard dozens of success stories from co-op members and my own family members. Please feel free to email me your personal testimony on your experience with this product!

CSA Farmers Market: Growing Season Update Oct 8, 2015

The cabbage butterfly are still hanging out, they are a wonderful creature to watch as they bounce from plant to plant looking for a home for their eggs. I actually enjoy watching them and if it wasn’t for the evil activities of their children (caterpillars) eating and pooping on the cabbage, kale, broccoli, brussels sprouts and other plants we would let them alone. Next year we will have to release some natural predators of these butterflies.
Ducks on the pond, they are not real ducks, just fake ducks marking areas where the pond is being aerated, the aeration improves the water quality for irrigation as well as it helps fish to survive over the winter.

It is the time of year that the growers close up their hoop-houses to protect the plants from the frost. Also the ground is being worked so that fall cover crops can be sowed and plowed under next spring to help add organic matter to the soil.
Inside work continues as we prepare for new plantings, in one hoop house all the beds are changing direction so that we can do smaller plantings more often and more variety.
The clover is actually a cover crop, it is good for the bees and beneficial insects as well as it competes well with unwanted weeds and adds nutrients to the soil. As always it is nice to see the periodic 4-leaf clover, as often time farming seems like luck when we are at the mercy of the weather.

New Field Farm's Online Market: Weblog Entry
Greetings,
A few small green cabbages survived the porcupines (I caught another tonight in the kale)so we have some to offer.
There’s some nice Summer Crisp lettuce that got nipped by frost so we’re offering that for a bit less than usual.
The hoop house has a nice stand of lettuce, kale, arugula and spinach so we’ll see how long we can offer greens into the fall.
Still lots of onions, potatoes, carrots, leeks, kale, chard, spinach and bok choy.
Looks like we’ll have a little honey to offer again this year once we extract it.
Enjoy the beautiful autumn and thank you for your orders.
Tim
